Air Traffic Controller (ATC) or Flight Controller in India is that person, who is specially trained by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to maintain safe, rapid, orderly and diligent flow of air traffic in the Air Traffic Control System globally. The Air Traffic Controller requires high knowledge, abilities and skills of Air traffic system. The Air Traffic Control job in India is considered as one of the most important and interesting jobs. It is important because as an ATC you have to be vigilant every time because keeping an eye over sky all the time is pretty much necessary. In other words, we can say that Air Traffic controllers are basically the eyes & ears of the pilots which are present in the aircraft.  Air traffic controller is also known as Superintendent or Junior Executive. To become an ATC in India there are many requirements which I have stated below but apart from that an air traffic controller should always be attentive and vigilant about the Air Traffic System. So, considering that as an important aspect of the Air Traffic Controller job’s let us see How to become an Air Traffic Controller ? , The Selection Procedure for Air Traffic Controller in India , Salary of Superintendent or Junior Executive (ATC) in India and Requirements of AAI for the post of Air Traffic Controller in India.

Requirements of AAI for the post of Air Traffic Controller in India :

The requirements for the post of Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in India as per Airports Authority of India (AAI) are given below :

  •  Candidate applying for the job must have an Engineering degree either in Telecommunication, radio with electronics or electronics as specialization.
  • Candidates with M.sc degree or 1st class equivalent can also apply.
  • Candidates age should not be less than 21 years and should not be more than 27 years (maximum age for OBC is 30 years and SC/ST is 32 years) at the start of the training.
  • Candidate should have High English Proficiency.
  • He should have the ability to take high quality decisions.
  • He should be confident and should have the quality take decisions in both busy and quiet situations.
  • AAI requires those candidates who have high intelligence to understand and convey consistent information flow.
  • Candidate should have proper colour vision, hearing and speaking abilities.

The Selection Procedure for Air Traffic Controller in India :

The selection procedure for Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in India as per Airports Authority of India (AAI) includes :

  • Written Exam : The written exam consists two sections:

Technical section : It consists technical questions from mathematics and physics to test the technical knowledge of the candidate.

Non-Technical section : It consists non-technical questions from english and GK to test the non-technical knowledge of the candidate.

Candidates who get more than 60% marks can expect the call from AAI for the voice Test & interview.

 

  • Voice Test & Interview : Voice Test and Interview is done to check the confidence, fluency on stammering of the candidate . Candidates with proper speaking abilities are selected by the panel of interviewers from Airports Authority of India .

 

  • Medical Test: After the voice test & interview, the selected candidates will have to give the medical test which is considered as the final step of Air Traffic Controller job .
  1. The Medical Test is Class II medical test.
  2. There should be no issue to your vision when you will be given 6/6 glasses to see.
  3. Candidates with colour blindness are not allowed to give the exam for Superintendent or Junior Executive.
  • Salary of Superintendent or Junior Executive (ATC) in India :

The approximate starting salary of Superintendent or Junior Executive (ATC) in India is around Rs. 60,000 per month.
